Finally booked your tickets for your dream vacation? Make sure you start your trip on a good note by adhering to the airport guidelines!
Here are a few things you need to do before leaving for and arriving at the airport.
Time Your Arrival
You know how they say you need to time your airport arrival a couple of hours before the actual flight time? They aren’t kidding! While we don’t recommend you get to the airport 5 hours before the flight, you do need to plan your arrival keeping the following factors in mind:
- Check-in lines
- Security screening
- Roadside/on-way traffic
- Distance from your residence to the airport
All of these things affect the time it’ll take for you to make it from your couch to the airplane seat. Make sure you’ve factored in the waiting time involved in each of these so that you’re not stressing out at the last minute about being late! To be on the safe side, it’s best to add a margin of 30 minutes to your estimated time, and arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure.
Gather Your Travel Documents
These include your passport, boarding pass, airline tickets, and your identification documents such as a valid driver’s license or social security card. Double-check if you have everything with you before you leave. It’s also advised to make copies of your documents to have a backup in case you need it.
Make sure you keep the documents in a secure and accessible bag. You don’t want to hold up the lines at the airport as you open pocket after pocket in your bag to get your documents out!
Check Baggage Requirements
Every airline has its own baggage requirements. Based on this, you may be required to check-in your bag, even if you are carrying a small trolley bag.
Avoid any confusion at the airport by thoroughly going through the baggage guidelines beforehand and packing your belongings accordingly. You don’t want to arrive with your carry-on only to find out that it exceeds the weight limit and needs to be checked in instead. This is especially inconvenient if you packed all your things in the bag including those you would need on the flight. Moreover, checking in your luggage last minute may also come with an additional fee that you want to avoid.
Book an Airport Transportation Service
Don’t forget to book your ride to the airport with a reliable car rental service! This will save you from the trouble of driving to the airport yourself, and will also prevent you from being late for your flight. The company representatives will be at your place at a scheduled pick-up time and drive you to the airport keeping all traffic and weather considerations in mind. You don’t want to be late for the airport check-ins, after all!
